Preservation Needs Assessment – Survey Template

The Community Heritage Grants program run by the National Library of Australia often funds Preservation Needs Assessments of cultural collections.

Standardised reporting of the preservation needs of different collections allows funding agencies to target assistance more effectively. Standardized reporting will assist the collections sector as a whole to begin to determine the real conservation needs of Australian collections.

The Preventive Conservation Special Interest Group of AICCM responded to the request for a standardised report and has developed a Preservation Needs Assessment Template designed specifically for Australian conditions and collections. This template has already been given to recipients of Community Heritage Grant funding, and is being made available free of charge so as to encourage its widest usage.

During the first year of use, we expect there will be comments about the template. We welcome these comments in the hope to continually refine the template to make it effective for all.
