The careful selection of an appropriate conservator is particularly important, because the profession is not regulated by law. The Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials (AICCM Inc.) is the national organisation of conservation professionals in Australia, and our Code of Ethics and Code of Practice are intended to promote a high standard of work and conduct. Members of the AICCM agree to follow these codes when they take out membership.
Inclusion in the AICCM’s list of Members in Private Practice does not constitute a recommendation, accreditation or approval. Inclusion in this list is obtained only by membership of the AICCM. Members “self-nominate” areas of expertise.
The AICCM accepts no liability for any loss or damage which may result from any use of the Members in Private Practice List or that may occur during private contractual agreements.
The information contained on the page Guidelines for Commissioning Conservation Treatment may be used as an aid when selecting a conservator.
We accept advertisements in good faith. We do not warrant or represent that the products or services advertised in advertisements on the AICCM website or in any of our print publications will be suitable for any particular purpose, or that an advertiser has any particular qualifications or is legally entitled to carry on a particular business. You must investigate for yourself the suitability, quality and condition of any goods or services advertised, and it is your responsibility to verify any information before relying on this information. Advertisements that appear in AICCM publications are the responsibility of the contributors and are not official statements of AICCM Inc, nor does the AICCM necessarily endorse said advertisements. The advertiser or advertising agency assumes liability for all content of advertisements (including text, representation and illustrations) and also assumes responsibility for any relevant claims that may arise against the publishers.
The recommendations contained in information sheets listed on this website are intended as guidance only, and are not intended to replace the advice of a professional conservator. As the needs of individual objects and collections vary widely, the AICCM encourages individuals and organisations to consult practicing conservators for advice on the care of their collections. AICCM Inc. does not assume responsibility or liability for any damage or loss of value that occurs to material as a result of applying the information contained in these publications.
The AICCM site may contain links to other websites which are not maintained or controlled by us ("third party” sites). We make no representations or warranties whatsoever about any third party site. We accept no responsibility for the content or use of any third party site. If you link to any third party site, you leave the AICCM site and do so entirely at your own risk.
The AICCM website sometimes provides unrestricted forum/s for the exchange of ideas and information by participants, including a 'Comment' function on some web pages. By posting or distributing information or material through these forums and comments, you expressly abandon any proprietary rights you may have in such content, and such information or material may be freely copied and distributed by others without your permission.
